Sole (Soh-lay)

A little while ago I showed you the photo above. It is a baby hat I made for a work colleague. It is my first attempt at what I consider to be my own pattern creation. I'm sure there are other baby hats out there with similar designs, but I haven't found anything exactly like this in my search through ravelry. I decided to name it after the little guy it was made for, but I had to wait for him to be born to know what this name would be. I now introduce: Sole (Soh-lay). He's Italian, and he came into the world on June 21st. Yay!
The first knitting of Sole used a multi-color yarn, and while the yarn was very pretty, it kind of hid the cables of the design. So, lucky for me my friend Shane presented me with the opportunity to knit it again in a solid color. On June 22nd Shane and his wife Missy welcomed twin boys into their lives! So, I knit two more Sole hats for these new arrivals! One in terra cotta.
And one in celery. These show the pattern a lot better than the multi-colored yarn did. This yarn is Blue Moon Sock Candy. It is cotton yarn that is very soft. It is leftovers from a Baby Surprise Jacket kit that I bought a couple of years ago. I knit one BSJ with the yarn, the kit makes a very very newborn sized BSJ, in fact, the newborn I made it for was such a big guy he never wore it and it is stylishly highlighted by a teddy bear he has. I ended up making a larger size for the big guy. I plan to put the pattern for Sole on ravelry for free for folks. I'm still working on that piece.

Shane's twin boys also have a big sister, Isadora, who is 14 months old. So, I didn't want big sister to get left out and I made her this:
It's just a little hat with some stripes and colorwork. It is using more of the yarn from the kit. It is lavender and toffee colored. So, I now have a little set of hats that are headed for Eugene, Oregon.
Pretty fun! They have served as a good distraction from this:
This is the left half of the Baby & Bears for Grown-Ups sweater, sans trim. I'm really happy with how this turned out thus far. I need to knit the right side now. I probably won't start the right side for a bit though. I have some sewing projects that I need to work on and I'm headed out of town this weekend. The sweater doesn't travel quite as well as a sock would. We will see though, I haven't figured out what I'm taking with me.

I have other stuff to post about. I spent part of the Fourth of July weekend in Forks, Washington - home of the Twilight series. I wasn't there for Twilight related reasons, it happens to be the town where my mom and aunt were born. My aunt passed away in February and wanted to have her remains buried in Forks. So, we gathered to say good-bye. Twilight stuff abounds in the town though! I'll post about it soon!
