C25K - Day 1

Well, I'm looking for a change, in me. I don't know what has caused this desire, but here it is. It could be the change in the seasons, the time off of work, changes in me, cabin fever that I'm still trying to shake, who knows, there are a myriad of possibilities. Awhile ago a friend of mine told me about a program called C25K, Couch to 5K running program. It is a nine week running program for folks who don't run to get started in running and by the end of it you are able to run 5K. It involves a lot of intervals - for example - in the first week you do intervals of jogging for 60 seconds followed by walking for 90 seconds and you do this for 20 minutes. The program has you do this three times a week. I'm feeling like I'm getting older (oy vey!), I'm overweight, and I'm out of shape. Oddly enough, Winston is in the same place. So, I didn't really ask him if he wants to do this, but he's doing it with me! Winston is topping out at 101 pounds, I'm not revealing my weight! I think, due to our collective lack of conditioning, it may take us longer than 9 weeks to get to our 5K. This is a very odd space to be in for me; I've always been philosophically opposed to running, my joke is that I don't run unless I'm being chased. So, the fact that I'm exploring this also is strikingly odd. But, I'm looking for some way to jump start myself and I thought this sounded as good a try as anything else. We will see how this works, wish us luck!
On another note, today is my baby sister's birthday. She is two years younger than me, we are a fair amount alike, people have asked us more than once if we are twins. She is one of my best and dearest friends and I'm so glad she is in my life. The story goes that when she came home from the hospital I was so excited that I wanted to go around the neighborhood telling everyone, "I have a sister! I have a sister!" I think my dad took me to tell some of our neighbors. I'm still pretty excited to have her as my sister, she's the GREATEST!! This is an older photo of her, but it is one of my favorites, it is quintessential Lou to me!!
