It is now summer vacation! Summer always feels to me like a time to catch up on stuff. I generally have a HUGE list of things I hope to catch up on and I spend the summer trying to not: a) overwhelm myself, b) set myself up so that I never get things done. One thing that has been true since I moved from the classroom to the counseling office is that summer is shorter now then it was. As a counselor, I go back to work two weeks earlier than I did as a teacher, and while yes, of course I get compensated for this time the balance between time versus money is always a hard one for me. More money is nice, but often there is nothing that beats more time. Things I want to do this summer are varied and plentiful! I'd like to:
1. Finish my quilt top, and perhaps make some more.
2. Finish kuspuk and plan for some more for the holidays.
3. Finish some of my UFO's in the knitting world. Rather than start new projects, which is always a challenge since I see so many new patterns all the time that I'd love to knit!
4. Start a new exercise regimen. I'm looking a C25K as a possibility because it can be easily integrated into walks with Winston.
5. Pull out the carpet in my house and replace it with a different kind of flooring. To get to here involves some other projects first... This will also require assistance from Sweet Baboo, who is still working because he doesn't have one of these fancy education jobs!
6. Work with my union to prepare for campaign season in Alaska (we have a gubernatorial election this year in addition to some important ballot initiatives).
7. Volunteer with Planned Parenthood to help with a ballot initiative they are trying to keep from becoming law.
Okay, so that's 7 things. But they are 7 BIG THINGS!! They need to be broken down into smaller pieces. There is a strong possibility that I won't get this all done. I've started thinking that maybe I need to really break the list down into smaller pieces and then from there try to make a realistic list. So, I've looked for ideas on how to do this. I've talked with SB to see if he can help me pare the list down to something reasonable so that I don't get to the end of the summer and feel like a loser for not getting more done. He knows me better than anyone and knows not only what I'm capable of getting accomplished, but also what I'm likely to get done. Another person suggested that what she does is to have four items on her to do list at any time. Once she gets one done then she can add another. That seemed like a good plan. I'm open to other ideas though. If you have other ideas that you are willing to share I'm willing to listen!
