The first thing we did was to head off to the sled dog demonstration. At Denali National Park they breed and raise sled dogs that are used year round. The dogs are particularly important in the winter time when they are used to break trail and to check on conditions and activity throughout the park. The first part of the demonstration allowed us to go around and meet the dogs and the rangers who care for them. Here the boys are petting Pyro, who was a very friendly!
They had the dogs pull a ranger around a loop on a sled so that we could see the dogs at work!
Then they let folks climb on the sled for a photo op! Here is Kieran on the sled:
Here is Alastar on the sled:
After the demonstration and some lunch we headed for a hike in the park to the beautiful Horseshoe Lake. Here are the happy hikers, ready to head out on the trail!
When we got down to the lake we saw that we weren't alone, there was a moose taking a bath in the lake. At first when we got to the lake the moose was closer, but the young hikers got there first and they were not quiet, so the moose swam away.
Here is a fantastic photo of Alastar, Laura, and Kieran at the lake.
On our hike back out of the lake we came across this on our trail. A cow moose with a calf. Needless to say, we couldn't continue on our hiking trail. We had to get off the trail and go around. We gave momma and baby a lot of room and then we got back on the trail after we were sure we were out of her way.

After our hike we hopped back on the train. We were headed to our final destination, Fairbanks! This photo is of the train traveling underneath the Parks Highway.
Here is a photo of windblown Kieran:
And here is windblown Alastar (this was actually from our first day on the train):
All in all it was a great day filled with adventure! On to Fairbanks!
