Good-bye 2009! Hello 2010!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I also wish everyone a VERY happy New Year! I was just looking at what I wrote to start off 2009 and was thinking about how I did on that list of resolutions.

I did pretty good about not buying yarn until November 2009. I did end up buying some for Madrona, which ended up being silly because I haven't even looked at that project and I don't have a real interest in it. I went a little bananas buying yarn at Sock Summit - but I tried to buy types of yarn that I couldn't get in Alaska so I feel okay about it. And I know it will end up as something lovely. I did pretty good at stash reduction though. All the charity hats I knit - from stash. Any socks I knit - from stash. The first BSJ I knit - from stash. The second one I knit, not from stash, from yarn purchased at Sock Summit - so from *new* stash. I finished one of the two toddler blankets, and now there is yet another new Irish baby. I'm thinking that I'll need to figure something out quick! With chunky yarn and either big needles or a big hook! I haven't finished the sweater for DH - but it is moving along and is all from stash. I haven't finished the sweater in my head - which has actually been changed into a different sweater entirely, but it is kind of started and it's all from stash. I started Lou's knee highs - from stash. So, there is progress. I have lost my sock mojo for a bit. I'm sure it will come back.

So, in some ways it seems like 2009 was a year of things begun, but not yet finished. 2009 was a really hard year for me in many ways. It was a year that started out feeling stuck and then got moving and changing really fast! Ultimately, I believe that change is positive. I think it is good, that movement can be hard, but that it yields positive results in the long run. Sometimes the long run feels like it is a long ways away though. From what I can see right now, the changes are bound to continue, at the crazy speed they have been moving, and I'm just doing my best to keep up! My hopes for 2010 are to finish some of these undone things. And to try some new things. I received a sewing machine, my first one, for Christmas and that has already started me down some new roads. I want to finish the two sweaters. I want to finish the knee highs for Lou. I want to knit the Grinch socks that I bought as a kit for myself over a year ago. I'd love to have those for Christmas 2010! I want to knit my dad some gloves. I want to have fun with friends and family. I want to ski more with Winston. I want to take pleasure in the small beauties of life, like the sunlight, the snow, the therapy of a walk on the beach, laughing with my nephews, and spending time with my DH who amazes me and makes me laugh everyday. My hopes are high for 2010 to be a really, really good year!
