A Knitting Dilemma
I have a dilemma. Do you make a second pair of socks for a friend who denies, then can't remember ever receiving, and then thinks they may have gotten rid of the first pair of socks you knit for them? This is my struggle. I carry around the yarn, pattern, and needles - but I haven't cast on. I'm angry and I'm hurt. But, I also already told this person that I was making them a second pair of socks - that is how the dilemma started. What do you think I should do? I appreciate your thoughts.

That's why I try (though frequently fail) to not tell someone I'm making something for them. It always seems to get messy somehow... And, I have a really hard time crafting anything for anyone who doesn't appreciate it in the way I think they should.
In your situation, I'd knit the socks and then write down the day you bestow them upon the recipient (a photograph of the event may not be a bad idea either). And, you have the yarn and pattern already picked out, but I always try to make sure knitting that is not entirely by choice at least fufills some sort of personal ambition (new pattern, technique, reward yarn at the end, something) so that I don't feel like I'm not getting anything out of it. Especially since feelings are hurt, there needs to be something to take the sting out of it. Otherwise that'd be one very resentful pair of socks... ...
I agree w/Leah. Knit away & make an event over the gifting. You'll enjoy the knitting anyway, right? You could even dedicate a post to the event. I say let the water flow under the bridge (as difficult as that may be...) & knit away.
Uh, yeah. No socks for her, I say. You forgot that you promised to make them for her. :) I am merciless anymore after several incidents of, "you knit me something?"
Good luck - that is always awkward.
no way no socks for them.... I couldnt imagine anyone receiving a Margaret knitted object and not treasuring it the way my smallies adore their blankets so while it may seem petty I say no to more socks!!! If they didnt bother to keep or dont remember the 1st pair then they so do not deserve a 2nd pair. And I am sure u have plenty of people who would love to receive and treasure a Margaret knit!!!!
